Only Ward 2 Councilor Richard Ash, who was unopposed, and Councillor at large Noel Debona will be returning for another two year term in 2026. David Jacobs beat incumbent Ward 1 Councilor Dave McCarthy 56 to 43%. Walter Hubley beat out Kathy Thrun 50, 51 to 47%, only 103 votes for the seat that's being vacated by Ian Kane. In Ward 4, incumbent James Devine was narrowly defeated by Virginia ryan by only 45 votes. [00:01:28] There will also be two new at large councilors next year as former counselor Ann Mahoney topped the tickets citywide yesterday with almost 8,700 votes. She'll be joined by incumbent Noel Debona and newcomer Susan Yuan. Yuan ousted incumbent Scott Campbell by 166 votes. Nina Liang did not seek reelection this year. Just under 23% of Quincy voters cast ballots in yesterday's election. [00:02:14] Now scammers have struck again, bilking a Weymouth woman out of over $31,000 in the so called warrant scam. [00:02:24] The Inaufra County Sheriff's Office as someone claiming to be from their office stole the money from the woman by calling her claiming that they were a lieutenant from the Sheriff's office and had a warrant out for her arrest. [00:02:37] After two days of calls, the woman wired two payments to the scammer in the amounts of $20,500 and $6,500 to other payments via Tele Apple pay were sent for $4,500 and $100. The woman reported the scam yesterday. It follows similar incidents last week in Dedham and Sharon where victims lost $6,700 when they send payments from bitcoin kiosks. The Sheriff's office says they do not make calls regarding jury duty and warrants and anyone receiving such a call should just hang up and report it to authorities. [00:03:22] Seven people were displaced following a morning apartment building fire in Randolph yesterday. Fire broke out at 20 Liberty Place shortly after 11am upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke coming from a second floor window before firefighters quickly initiated an interior attack and were able to contain the fire to a single apartment unit on the second floor. All seven residents were able to get out of the building prior to the fire department's arrival. [00:03:52] Building management is now working with the American Red Cross to assist those affected. No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. [00:04:03] Two Massachusetts men were arrested in connection with an explosion on Harvard University's Longwood Medical Campus. [00:04:13] 18 year old Logan David Patterson of Plymouth and 20 year old Dominic Frank Cardoza from Bourne were charged with conspiracy to damage by means of fire or explosive. Federal officials said the investigation's ongoing. Patterson and Cardosa made their initial appearance in federal court yesterday. The charge carries a sentence of up to five years in prison and at a $250,000 fine. They were both ordered to stay away from all Harvard buildings and cannot handle any firearms or fireworks, officials said. An explosive detonated within a wooden locker just before 3am on Saturday on the fourth floor of Harvard's Goldinson Building, which is on the university's medical campus on Longwood Avenue. FBI bomb technicians believe the explosive to be a large commercial fire fireworks similar to a Roman candle. There was no structural damage to the building in the aftermath. All labs and equipment remained fully operational. University police released photos of two suspects in the explosion, saying that the two were seen running from the building when police arrived at the scene. Someone recognized the men from the images and contacted investigators. Both Cardoza and Patterson will appear before a judge again on November 24th. [00:05:39] A check of business news this morning and stocks retreated yesterday. The dow was down 251 points. The NASDAQ dropped 486. The S&P lost 80.
