Ward 4 Councilor Virginia Ryan said residents at a recent community meeting about the plan were in support. Skyline is a New Jersey based property management company that owns and operates Skyline Drive Apartments in Braintree. The Attorney General says over the past several years GM Skyline has routinely failed to provide reasonable accommodations to tenants with disabilities.

[00:04:17] A South Shore couple says they were stunned to learn that a business they'd never heard of was registered at their home address, and now they fear the situation could be tied to fraud. Experts say it is a problem that will likely only grow as artificial intelligence makes it easier to create fake businesses. Mike Slayson says the problem started about a month ago when he and his wife began receiving mail addressed to a company called Zyra Lon at their single family home. The mail soon became more alarming. Slayson says that letters started arriving from banks at the irs, making him worry someone was using his address to operate a business without his knowledge. According to state corporate records, somebody paid $500 to incorporate Zyra Lon in Massachusetts, listing the business in as a children's shoe store at the Sleason's residential address.
[00:05:16] Secretary of State Bill Galvin said fake business filings are typically created for fraud purposes with evidence pointing to a sham company. Galvin said his office is moving to dissolve Xyrolon, although the process takes up to 90 days. Galvin says he's asking state lawmakers for authority to act faster, ideally in 30 days, and to flag companies under investigation on his office's website, especially as artificial intelligence makes it easier to create convincing fake businesses online.
[00:05:49] Calvin's also opposing an effort on Beacon Hill to lower the state's $500 corporate filing fee, saying he worries a lower cost could make Massachusetts more attractive to fraudsters.
