[00:00:16] I'm Joe Catalano with an AM Quinn Z news update for Monday, February 2nd.
[00:00:22] There may be some more minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide this morning. Yesterday some minor flooding was reported in the Newport Avenue area in North Quincy and the same is possible today. High tide this morning is at 11:31am so flooding could be a problem anytime from 10am to 1pm the tides are astronomically high, combined with the storm that passed out to sea causing the flooding issues along the coast. Also this morning, a water pipe burst inside the Victory Point Restaurant on Victory Road at Marina Bay called, causing some flooding. Quincy firefighters responded and the Quincy Water Department and officials were able to get the water turned off around 5am the extent of the damage is still unclear.
[00:01:13] While the public will have an opportunity to comment at tonight's Quincy City Council meeting, President Ann Mahoney says she fully intends to have a public comment period at council meetings discuss despite the initial objection of Counselor at Large Noel Dubona, Dabona has since said he is in favor of public comments at council meetings. He says he objected to the proposal at the last council meeting because he wanted more time to review the proposal. Mahoney says the public comments will have time restrictions and she will not allow any personal attacks.
[00:01:47] Also, the issue of pay raises for the Mayor and city Councilors as back on the agenda for the Quincy City Council tonight. Proposed orders would repeal the raises and also repeal the annual raises that would be tied to the Consumer Price Index. The issue was tabled at the last meeting when Councillor at Large Noel debona objected without offering an explanation. Council President Anne Mahoney says she will force a vote to place the items into the Ordinance Committee. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 at City Hall.
[00:02:22] An MBTA commuter rail train slammed into a disabled vehicle on the tracks not long after the driver got out in Abington yesterday.
[00:02:33] Transit police say the driver reported that his vehicle broke down and came to arrest on the tracks. The driver exited, then a train struck the vehicle sometime later. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the collision and and no injuries were reported. The vehicle did sustain substantial damage. Video shows the driver getting out of the car just a few minutes before the train comes barreling through and two people can be seen not far from the tracks when the crash happens T Police say they are investigating the incident.
[00:03:06] The New England Patriots left for the super bowl yesterday morning after thousands braved the frigid temperatures for a send off rally at Gillette Stadium. Thousands of fans were in attendance, including some who braved the frigid temperatures without shirts on. The entertainment included the Patriots cheerleaders and some former players making appearances.
[00:03:27] Then the dropkick Murphy's entertained the crowd with several songs. Owner Robert Kraft and head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the crowd as well, coming out yelling, warriors, come out and play.
[00:03:39] That rallying cry went viral thanks to wide receiver Mack Hollins entrance prior to the AFC Championship game. Patriots captains Drake May, Marcus Jones, Hunter Henry, Robert Spillane, Harold Landry, Brendan Schooler also took the stage to chants of mvp. May took the microphone for a brief message. Program ended and the Patriots boarded their buses to head for TF Green Airport in Rhode Island. They loaded the planes and took off for California. A short time later, Patriots will face the Seattle Seahawks and Super Bowl 60 Sunday, February 8, 6:30pm at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Patriots are 6 and 5 in Super Bowls and have played in more than any other team in the NFL. They're currently tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most super bowl wins.
[00:04:36] Music's biggest night turned out to be a big night for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which added two more Grammy Awards to its collection. The BSO and BSO music director Andres Nielsen's were recognized for best orchestral performance and cellist Yo Yo Ma. BSO and Nielsen's also won in the best Classical Instrumental category for its Shostakovich Cello Concertos album. The recording of the Cello Concertos with Yo Yo Ma, recorded at Symphony hall in October of 2023, was issued as a standalone recording. It marks Ma's 20th Grammy Award over his long career. The BSO has now amassed a total of 13 Grammy awards. The orchestra's last wins came in 2019.
[00:05:28] A check of business news this morning and stocks are down. The Dow lost 179 points. The Nasdaq dropped 223. The S&P fell 29. U.S. futures and Asian stocks were down as worries over President Trump's nominee to be the next Federal Reserve chair amplified jitters over a possible bubble in the artificial intelligence boom.
[00:05:54] The dollar fell, the Euro rose oil is at $62 a barrel and sports Tampa Bay beat the Bruins 6 to 5 in a shootout. The Bees will stay in Florida take on the Panthers Wednesday night at 7. Celtics beat the Bucks 107 to 79. They'll be in Dallas tomorrow night at 8 o'. Clock. Forecast from the National Weather Service Today, mostly sunny, the high of 32 degrees or tonight clear and frigid again, a low of 8. Tomorrow mostly sunny at a high of 34. Wednesday sun and clouds at a high 33 and Thursday sunny with a high of 30.
